Fresno, CA (February 10, 2023) – A driver lost their life as a result of a motor vehicle accident that took place late Wednesday evening in Central Fresno.
The Fresno Police Department was notified at around 11 p.m. on February 8 that they were needed at the scene of an accident on North First Street.
Preliminary reports provided by the Fresno Police Department show that a police officer attempted to pull over a vehicle during the evening hours due to a non-moving traffic violation. The driver fled from the police by heading westbound on East Shields Avenue.
As the vehicle proceeded through the intersection of East Shields Avenue and Fresno Street after having run a red light, it crashed into a Chevrolet Cruze.
The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 29-year-old Victor Cardenas, was severely hurt in the accident. He was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center for emergency care. The Fresno Police Department confirmed that he passed away after arriving.
The driver of the suspect vehicle, 40-year-old Andrew Calderon, was admitted to an area hospital in critical condition.
The police department in Fresno is currently investigating the crash.
