Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in California
Thousands of people lose their lives in motor vehicle accidents across the state of California. Approximately 25% of victims who are fatally injured are pedestrians. In many cases, pedestrians end up losing their lives in accidents caused by careless and reckless drivers.
After the loss of a loved one, you may be able to file a personal claim for wrongful death. The term wrongful death is used to refer to a type of lawsuit that is filed on behalf of a person who died. These claims are similar to personal injury suits but provide compensation for the losses and damages that the decedent’s relatives incurred.
It is extremely difficult to file a lawsuit by yourself for wrongful death. A skilled Los Angeles wrongful death attorney can greatly improve your chances of winning a lawsuit by proving negligence. Your attorney will be able to conduct a thorough investigation and determine the fault in the accident. Even if your loved one shared a portion of the fault, your family will still be able to recover financial compensation for various damages that you face.
Some recoverable damages following a fatal accident include:
- Loss of parental guidance (for children)
- Loss of companionship (for spouses)
- Funeral expenses
- Burial expenses
