Fresno, CA (February 16, 2023) – The Fresno County Coroner’s Office has identified 18-year-old Aeneas McClain as the victim who lost their life in the high-speed accident that occurred on Monday afternoon.
At around 2 p.m. on February 13, emergency crews were dispatched to the site of an accident on Blackstone Avenue near San Jose Avenue.
According to reports, a Dodge Charger was traveling at a high rate of speed when it crashed into another vehicle near the intersection. Reports show that the vehicle may have been racing another pickup truck when it crashed into a red-colored pickup on the road. The impact of the crash caused the Dodge to spin out and collide with a black pickup truck.
McClain was rushed to an area hospital for emergency care. However, authorities confirmed that he passed away after arriving.
Two other people were treated for injuries. One of the two victims was transported to a local hospital.
The incident remains under investigation.
Fatal Car Accidents in California
In 2021, more than 3,800 people died as a result of accidents in California. Many of these accidents involve some form of negligence. One of the leading factors in these crashes is speeding. Every year, we see countless people end up passing away as a result of car accidents caused by speeding drivers.
There are a number of reasons that play a role in why driving at high speeds can result in serious vehicle accidents. To begin, a driver who is going too fast for road conditions is at an increased risk of losing control of their car. This can occur if the vehicle strikes a pothole or if the driver attempts to make a quick turn.
Second, going over the speed limit increases the force of the collision if it does occur. If two vehicles crash when one of them is going at a faster speed than the other, the vehicle that is traveling faster will cause greater damage to anything it comes in contact with. When a vehicle is traveling at a high rate of speed, the people involved are at an increased risk of being critically injured or even killed in the event of an accident.
Regrettably, speeding is truly one of the most preventable causes of accidents that occur here in California.
