This means that a hit-and-run accident occurs somewhere in the United States every 43 seconds. The 2,049 fatalities brought on by hit-and-run accidents in 2016 were the most ever reported.
If you were hit by a car while walking and suffered injuries, you might be entitled to make a personal injury claim. You may be able to obtain compensation for your injuries and other damages, and you do this by filing a personal injury lawsuit. Statistics show that more than half of all pedestrian accidents in California involve vehicles, and drivers are almost always at fault when a pedestrian is struck within a crosswalk. Under the state’s personal injury statutes, anyone wounded in a collision involving a pedestrian in the state may file a lawsuit against the negligent parties. Often awarded damages in personal injury cases include money for medical costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
