Pedestrian Accidents in California

Los Angeles, CA – Pedestrian Injured in Car Crash at E Manchester Ave & Towne AveIn 2021, 958 pedestrians lost their lives as a result of motor vehicle accidents in California. Thousands more were left with serious injuries due to these accidents. Pedestrians who are involved in accidents are at an increased risk of suffering severe and life-threatening injuries. The fact that they have no protection leaves them completely vulnerable to suffering severe spinal cord fractures, broken bones, and severe cuts and lacerations.

In the majority of cases, pedestrian accidents are a direct result of negligence. When drivers fail to operate their vehicles responsibly, it can have devastating consequences for pedestrians nearby.

One of the leading causes of pedestrian accidents in California is drivers who fail to yield. It is no secret that pedestrians have the right-of-way when it comes to designating crossing areas and various other locations in our state. When drivers fail to yield to pedestrians in these and other designated areas, they can cause severe accidents that result in life-altering injuries.

Turning at intersections without checking for pedestrians is another leading factor in many accidents. In many intersections, pedestrians are provided the right-of-way to cross the road when traffic in the opposite direction has the ability to proceed. In general, the crossing areas that pedestrians have the right-of-way to use run parallel to the active lanes of travel. When drivers turn intersections without looking for pedestrians, they can strike them while they are crossing the road. Unfortunately, this happens quite often.
