Oceanside, CA – Nick Cardenas ID’d as State Route 76 Crash Victim near Benet Rd

Oceanside, CA (February 25, 2023) – The Oceanside Police Department has identified the motorcycle accident victim in Oceanside as 23-year-old Nick Cardenas.

At approximately 6:00 p.m. on February 20, the police and firefighters were notified of an automobile accident on State Route 76.

Reports provided by authorities indicate that 67-year-old Robert Shuey was driving a car on State Route 76 when he ran a red light at the intersection with Benet Road. As a result, his vehicle crashed into a motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, identified as Cardenas, was ejected from his motorcycle. He suffered severe brain trauma and broken bones as a result of the accident. He was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition.

Shuey was taken into police custody on suspicion of DUI.

The circumstances surrounding the accident are currently being investigated.
