Bicycle Accidents in California
Bicycle accidents in California send approximately 11,000 people to area hospitals with injuries every year. In many cases, bicyclists are left with serious injuries that require extensive medical treatment. Even though bicyclists use helmets while traveling, they are often left with significant trauma to the head, broken bones, and internal organ injuries as a result of their accidents.
In many cases, bicyclists are hurt in accidents due to drivers who are reckless and negligent. Leading factors in these accidents include:
- Speeding: When drivers are traveling too fast, they are likely to lose control of their vehicles and strike bicyclists in the area.
- Drivers who fail to yield: We see many accidents take place as a result of drivers who fail to yield to bicyclists when turning at intersections or entering parking lots or driveways.
- Drivers who are distracted: When drivers are not paying attention to the road ahead, they are likely to drift out of their lanes and enter bicycle lanes, where they strike innocent riders.
- Impairment: We see many bicyclists hurt as a result of drivers who are intoxicated. When drivers are impaired, they may not stop in time to avoid striking bicyclists who are traveling nearby.
