Motorcycle Accidents in California

Riverside, CA – Injuries Follow Dirt Bike vs Honda Crash on Pico AveStatistics show that motorcyclists are 28 times more likely to be killed in an automobile accident than those who are inside passenger vehicles during collisions. The fact that motorcyclists generally lack adequate protection during automobile collisions means that they are more vulnerable to suffering serious injuries.

Unfortunately, we see hundreds of motorcyclists lose their lives as a result of crashes that take place here in California. The majority of accidents are completely preventable.

Car doors are one of the most common causes of accidents that we see in our state involving motorcyclists. When vehicles open doors directly in front of motorcyclists, riders often have no time to react. As a result, they are likely to strike the doors and suffer serious injuries.

Acts of recklessness contribute to a significant number of motorcycle accidents in our state as well. These can include:

  • Speeding
  • Not wearing helmets
  • Alcohol use
  • Drug use
  • Distractions

Unfortunately, any of these actions can cause serious accidents that have devastating consequences for those involved. Although not wearing a helmet won’t directly contribute to an accident taking place, it can definitely increase the severity of injuries that victims are left with.

Other leading causes of motorcycle accidents that we see here in California include lane splitting, lane switching, sudden stops, weather, inexperience, or left-hand turns. Unfortunately, any negligent or reckless action can have serious consequences for motorcyclists who are traveling on our roads.
