Bicycle Accidents in California
Being involved in a motor vehicle accident can be incredibly devastating. Unfortunately, hundreds of thousands of accidents are reported every year in California. Many of these accidents leave bicyclists with severe compound fractures, internal organ injuries, broken bones, and other painful injuries that impact their health and well-being forever. There are many instances where people are harmed in car crashes as a result of drivers who are reckless and negligent. When drivers fail to operate their vehicles with care and with consideration for others nearby, they can cause severe accidents that result in painful injuries.
One of the most common factors in car crashes across our state is drivers who fail to yield to others. While sharing the roadway, it is important that drivers understand that other drivers do have the right-of-way at various times. It is crucial that drivers maintain control of their vehicles and provide them with the right-of-way whenever necessary. Far too many accidents take place in our state as a result of drivers who run red lights at intersections. Running red lights or passing stop signs can leave other people traveling nearby at immediate risk of suffering serious injuries. When drivers run through traffic control devices, they can strike vehicles that do have the right-of-way to go. In some cases, vehicles may roll over, and drivers and passengers may be ejected from the vehicle as a result of these accidents.
Another common factor in many accidents across our state is impairment. Drivers who are intoxicated by alcohol or under the influence of drugs may simply lack the ability to operate their vehicles responsibly. As a result, these drivers are likely to drift into other lanes and strike other vehicles. In addition, impairment can impact the driver’s judgment and make it difficult for them to recognize traffic control devices or see other people nearby.
