Pedestrian Accidents in California
Hundreds of pedestrians are injured every single month as a result of automobile accidents here in California. Unfortunately, the majority of these accidents are incredibly preventable. We often see people harmed as a result of drivers who fail to yield the right-of-way. In addition, we see countless pedestrian accidents take place as a result of drivers who are impaired, speeding, distracted, or otherwise negligent.
When drivers are reckless when they operate their vehicles, it can have devastating consequences on others nearby. This is particularly true if they are traveling near pedestrians. Pedestrians are at an increased risk of suffering significant injuries during accidents. Some common injuries that are reported in these accidents include:
- Spinal cord injuries: given the fact that pedestrians do not have steel cages to protect them during accidents, they are more likely to suffer severe spinal cord injuries. These injuries can be debilitating and lead to paralysis. In some cases, victims may suffer paraplegia, which is the loss of the use of the legs. In other cases, victims may suffer quadriplegia, which is the loss of use of both the arms and the legs. These injuries can be incredibly debilitating and require extensive help indefinitely.
- Internal organ injuries: internal organ injuries can be life-threatening. It is far too common for pedestrians to suffer injuries to their heart muscles, their lungs, their spleens, their kidneys, and other internal organ injuries. Unfortunately, these injuries often require surgery and emergency care. In some cases, patients may have to use medical devices or medication indefinitely.
Unfortunately, any injury from a pedestrian accident can have a debilitating impact on your life. If you have suffered an injury as a result of the pedestrian accident that was caused by the negligent or reckless actions of another driver, you may be able to take legal action. A personal injury claim can provide you with the financial resources that you need to cover your medical costs and more.
