Pedestrian Accidents in California

Sacramento, CA – Pedestrian Hurt in Car Crash on Sunrise BlvdEvery day, pedestrians are injured as a result of accidents that take place in California. On average, around 1100 victims are hospitalized every month due to these accidents. In many cases, pedestrians are left with serious injuries that affect their lives forever.

Pedestrians are more likely to suffer severe injuries in motor vehicle accidents due to the fact that they are unprotected. We see countless victims left with spinal cord injuries, internal organ injuries, broken bones, and even severe lacerations as a result of these accidents every single day. In most cases, pedestrians are injured in motor vehicle accidents as a result of drivers who are reckless and negligent. Leading causes of pedestrian accidents include:

  • Speeding: drivers who travel above the posted speed limit risk losing control of their vehicles. Additionally, they may not be able to come to a stop in time to avoid striking pedestrians who may be crossing undesignated crossing areas.
  • Drunk drivers: Driving while under the influence of alcohol can increase the chances of a driver losing control of their vehicle. Unfortunately, drunk drivers are also likely to fall asleep and drift off the road and strike pedestrians nearby. Many pedestrians lack the ability to make sound decisions while behind the wheel. As a result, they are likely to strike pedestrians who may have the right-of-way in the area.
  • Distractions: We see far too many drivers drift off the road and strike pedestrians due to them being distracted while operating their vehicles. This can be caused by cell phone use, eating food, changing the radio, or even chatting with a passenger inside the car.

Unfortunately, accidents take place every day due to reckless and negligent actions. When innocent people are hurt as a result of these accidents, it only makes sense that they are able to protect their legal rights.
