Pedestrian Accidents in California
Nearly 80 pedestrians die every month as a result of car accidents in California. Thousands more are left injured. Even though pedestrians have several laws in place to protect them, we continue to see them victimized as a result of negligent drivers. When pedestrians are walking to their destinations, it is important that they are able to make it there safely. Unfortunately, it can be hard to do when sharing roads with negligent and reckless motorists.
Every day, innocent pedestrians suffer debilitating injuries and crashes when drivers fail to yield the right-of-way. In California, pedestrians have the right of way to cross the roadway in designating crossing spaces. At most intersections, there are traffic control devices that allow pedestrians to cross safely when it is their turn. When drivers fail to yield the right-of-way to these pedestrians, they can cause crashes that leave them with life-changing injuries.
In addition to failure to yield, we see many pedestrian accidents take place as a result of distractions. When drivers are not looking at the road ahead of them, they can crash into pedestrians and cause serious harm. Unfortunately, we see many pedestrians hurt as a result of drivers who are texting and talking on their phones or engaging in other actions that take their attention off the road.
Other causes of pedestrian accidents include speeding, impairment, and running red lights. These acts of negligence continue to cause harm to innocent people every single day in the state of California. If another driver’s negligence has caused you harm, you must take legal action against them. Holding the negligent party accountable will help to ensure you get justice and secure the money you need for your damages.
