What Happened during “Spirit in the Sky” Singer Car Crash?

Singer Norman Greenbaum, best known for his popular 1969 hit “Spirit in the Sky,” was injured and in critical condition following an accident on Saturday afternoon, March 28. The vehicle that Mr. Greenbaum was in, collided with a motorcycle. The rider of the motorcycle died at the scene.

Greenbaum, 72, was in the front passenger seat in a 2002 Subaru Outback when the driver, Bonita Kay Perea, made a left turn onto a road near Santa Rosa, California. The right side of the car was hit by a motorcycle that was “evidently unable to slow or stop in time to avoid a collision with the Subaru,” the highway patrol said in its report.

This type of motorcycle accident is sadly, all too common – a car and a motorcycle approach an intersection from opposite directions with the car making a left turn directly into the path of the motorcycle. In these types of accidents, the car making a left turn into the path of the oncoming motorcycle is usually found liable.
