What happened?

Hackers stole personal and financial information from Neiman Marcus customers who used the retailer’s app. The hackers used username and password information cracking software obtained from a third party to infiltrate Neiman Marcus’s mobile shopping app’s user database.

Were you affected?

If you used the Neiman Marcus app to make purchases, after January 2016, using your debit or credit card information, then you may have been affected, and you may be entitled to compensation.

What Nieman Marcus should have done to protect your information:

When you give your payment information, such as credit card numbers, full names, addresses and phone numbers to a corporation, they are responsible for safeguarding your information. There should not be any risk of any customer information being stolen, and absolutely no negligence, data breaches or lapses in security, at any time, for any reason.

When you give your personal payment information to a company like Neiman Marcus, and an unauthorized third-party hacks into their data, and then accesses your personal information, along with millions of other loyal, paying customers, that constitutes a negligence, and said retailer must be held accountable for their lack of system maintenance to prevent cyber security issues.

Neiman Marcus owes a duty to all customers, whether they use the app or purchase in-store directly, to provide proper execution of digital security; protecting user information, at all costs, no matter the circumstances, according to customer agreements. The threat of said customers’ personal payment information being accessed by unauthorized hackers is an egregious act of gross negligence, for which you should be fully compensated.

Furthermore, it took Neiman Marcus 18 months before they detected the data breach, as defined in their statement. Neiman Marcus put their profits before customer security by allowing the data breach to take place while customers were trusting the retailer with their personal data, using their app.
