On the evening of October 3, one person was killed in a disastrous multi-vehicle crash involving a big rig in Manteca, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The fatal truck accident occurred on eastbound Highway 120 at Main Street. A total of six vehicles, including the big rig, were involved.
The tractor trailer initiated the chain reaction crash when it failed to stop in time for slowed traffic and slammed into the rear of a Chevy pickup truck.
Upon impact, the pickup was pushed into the rear and over the top of the Honda Accord in front of it, flipping.
The Honda was pushed into a Mercedes and then off to the right shoulder where it went up in flames.
The Mercedes overturned after crashing into a Chevy sedan and then hit a Chevy SUV, causing it to overturn.
The driver of the Honda Accord was pronounced dead at the scene. More details about the victim’s identify were not immediately released.
Investigators do not believe weather was a factor.
“At this time, the investigation is still ongoing,” said a representative of Wilshire Law Firm. “Our thoughts are with all the victims and their loved ones.”
