10-Year-Old Girl Killed in 405 Freeway Accident Involving Drunk Driver
On the morning of August 15, a multi-vehicle accident on the 405 Freeway in Seal Beach left one 10-year-old girl dead, her 13-year-old sister critically injured, and their father hospitalized, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The fatal car crash occurred about 9:15 a.m. on the northbound 405, just north of Seal Beach Boulevard.
All of the victims were riding in a 2015 Tesla S in the carpool lane when a 2013 Chevy Tahoe SUV slammed into the rear of their vehicle, crumpling it into a 2012 Honda Civic ahead.
The driver of the Tesla, Don Geddis of Hillsborough, was taken to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center with moderate injuries. His 10-year-old and 13-year-old daughters, who were sitting in the back seat of the Tesla at the time of the incident, were taken to the same hospital in grave condition and critical condition, respectively. The 10-year-old was later pronounced dead.
Investigators believe that the driver of the Tahoe, 36-year-old Adam Kanas from San Clemente, was driving under the influence when the accident happened. He was arrested on DUI charges and booked into Orange County Jail.
“There are no words that can adequately describe how terrible this tragedy is,” said a representative of Wilshire Law Firm. “We hope that Kanas is held accountable for his reckless actions which caused the needless death of an innocent, young girl who had her whole future ahead of her.”
