On the night of August 28, two women were killed in an alleged drunk driving accident in South San Jose, according to police.
The fatal crash occurred about 9:16 p.m. on Camden Avenue at Bose Lane, west of Almaden Expressway.
The victims were in a gray 2008 Honda Accord traveling eastbound on Camden. They were turning left onto Bose when a 1998 Toyota Camry driven by 34-year-old Marvin Gatherwright, of San Jose, broadsided the Accord.
Two female passengers – 95-year-old Marjorie Devine and 73-year-old Donna Perucca – were declared dead at the scene. The 75-year-old male driver of the Accord was transported to the hospital with critical injuries.
Gatherwright was treated at the hospital for minor injuries and arrested on manslaughter and DUI charges.
“It’s a tragic story that repeats itself time and time again,” said a representative of Wilshire Law Firm. “A drunk driver ruins many lives, including their own. This has to stop. We extend our condolences to the victims and their loved ones, and hope that they find justice.”
