wrong way crash in ventura county
Early morning June 12, two vehicles crashed head-on in the westbound lanes of Highway 126 near Camulos Ranch, killing one man and two women.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the fatal car accident occurred at around 1:30 a.m. A 35-year-old man from Los Angeles was driving a 2015 Kia Optima the wrong way down the fast lane of the westbound side of the highway at an unknown speed, when he collided head-on into a westbound 2012 Toyota Camry which carried two Fillmore residents at the time – the driver, 31, and a passenger, 52.

“For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the 2015 Kia Optima drove his vehicle the wrong way in the direct path of travel of the Toyota which caused a head-on collision, resulting in major collision damage to both vehicles,” a CHP officer said.

All of the involved individuals had sustained fatal injuries and died by the time Ventura County paramedics arrived at the scene.

The crash was so severe and the resulting debris so obstructive that the highway had to be completely shut down for four hours.

The investigation is still ongoing. Any witnesses are encouraged to contact the officers of the Moorpark CHP.
