5 killed in highway 99 bus accident
A charter bus carrying about 30 people veered off Highway 99 before dawn on August 2 and slammed into a pole that sheared through the center of the vehicle, killing five people and injuring several others, according to authorities.

The disastrous bus crash occurred about 3:25 a.m. The unmarked white bus was heading north on Highway 99 near Livingston in Merced County when it hit the pole of a highway exit sign.

Survivors were pulled out through the windows by emergency workers. Five injured victims were transported by air to area hospitals.

“At this time, the cause of this tragic incident has not yet been determined,” said a representative of Wilshire Law Firm. “Officials say that they are in the process of a substantial investigation.”
