60-Year-Old Man Killed in Sunland Bicycle Accident
On November 1, a 60-year-old man was killed in a bicycle accident in Sunland, according to officials.
The fatal crash occurred about 5:15 p.m. in the 9100 block of Foothill Boulevard. The victim was struck by a vehicle. Emergency responders declared him dead at the scene.
The uninjured driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with authorities.
More details about the identities of the involved parties were not immediately released.
At this time, investigators are still determining the cause of the incident.
Unlike motorists, bicyclists are not protected by neither metal barriers nor seat belts, which is why bicycle accidents often result in serious, sometimes even fatal injuries. Bone fractures, spinal cord injury, and concussions are not uncommon. And if the physical pain and debilitation weren’t enough, such injuries usually require extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation, the costs of which can be extremely high, reaching the tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands of dollars.
