A woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI, felony hit and run, and vehicular manslaughter after fatally striking a pedestrian on the 4000 block of Mission Avenue and then driving for more than a mile with his body stuck through her windshield, according to Oceanside police.
The victim, a known transient in his 60s, was going to or leaving a nearby soup kitchen when a car driven by Esteysi Sanchez, 29, jumped the curb and hit him at about 6:20 a.m. on June 27.
Upon impact, the victim smashed through the windshield and became lodged on the front passenger seat. Inexplicably, Sanchez did not stop her car for about another mile before she pulled over and walked away.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sanchez was arrested not far from where she left the car.
The investigation is still ongoing.
