Female Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Big Rig in Emeryville
On the morning of November 1, a female pedestrian was struck and killed by a big rig while crossing the street in Emeryville, according to authorities.
The fatal pedestrian accident occurred at 9:24 a.m. The victim was crossing Powell Street in a crosswalk near Christie Avenue when the truck driver, while making a right turn onto Powell from Christie, struck the victim and ran over her.
The victim was transported to Highland Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. More details about her identity were not immediately released.
The driver of the big rig remained at the scene and was cooperative with the police.
At this time, an investigation is underway. Officials are looking into whether any negligence on part of the truck driver – fatigued driving, distracted driving, etc. – played a role in the incident. The pedestrian was crossing the street lawfully, so it is highly likely that some or all liability falls on the truck driver and his or her trucking company.
