Garden Grove Man Killed by Drunk Friend During His Birthday Party
On the night of August 20, a 34-year-old man was ran over and killed by an allegedly drunk friend during his birthday celebration in San Diego, according to police.
The tragic accident occurred about 12:30 a.m. at the Staybridge Suites in the 6600 block of Mira Mesa Boulevard.
Jonathan Carlyle Merkley, of Garden Grove, had been celebrating his birthday with friends when the unidentified female friend got behind the wheel of her white BMV. Merkley attempted to stop her from driving by lying down in front of the car.
The female driver ran her friend over and left the scene without stopping.
Merkley was taken to a hospital in La Jolla, where he later died from major trauma to his chest.
The hit-and-run suspect is still at large.
Anyone with information about the fatal incident is encouraged to report to the San Diego police.
“The driver needs to hold herself accountable for what appears to be a huge mistake and turn herself in,” said a representative of Wilshire Law Firm. “We give our condolences to Merkley’s loved ones.”
