On the night of August 20, a mother and her two children were struck and killed in Placentia by a suspected drunk driver, according to authorities.
The fatal drunk driving accident occurred about 10:25 p.m. near the 800 block of West La Jolla Street. Nearby officers who heard the crash rushed to the scene. There, they found the victims lying unresponsive in the street, along with two damaged vehicles and their drivers.
The victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver who struck the pedestrians was identified as Nicholas Stephen Munoz, 27. He was arrested on murder and DUI charges.
A group of Placentia police officers on patrol heard noises that sounded like a car crash at about 10:25 p.m. Saturday and headed towards the commotion, said Sgt. Mike Busse. They found the woman and two children lying unresponsive in the street near the 800 block of West La Jolla Street.
A man who identified himself as a relative of the victims said that the mother was Patricia Ledezma, 51, and the two children who were killed were her daughters, Diane Ledezma, 5, and Stefanie Ledezma, 8. They were returning from a party when they got hit.
“There are no words to describe how tragic this incident is,” said a representative of Wilshire Law Firm. “Our thoughts are with the victims’ loved ones, and we hope that they find justice.”
