On September 30, a Southern California Edison worker was fatally struck by a car while on the job in Lancaster, according to officials.
The victim has since been identified as Gerald Joseph Smith, 56, of Quartz Hill.
The driver of a black BMW 740 was heading westbound on Avenue K when he lost control of the vehicle, jumped the curb of the median, and hit the utility worker, who was on the ground fixing a power box.
Smith died at the scene. The driver, a young male in his 20s, was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. Investigators do not suspect alcohol involvement in the crash.
“At this time, the investigation is still ongoing,” said a representative of Wilshire Law Firm. “Our thoughts are with Smith’s loved ones.”
