Off-Duty Stockton Police Officer Killed in Escalon Hit-and-Run Accident
On the evening of August 20, an off-duty Stockton police officer was struck and killed on his motorcycle in a Escalon hit-and-run accident, according to authorities.
The fatal crash occurred about 11:10 p.m. close to the intersection of Brennan Road and Highway 120. Officer Justin Kepler was riding his motorcycle when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Isidro Urista-Meza, 27, of Escalon, who turned into Kepler’s right-of-way. Kepler crashed into the vehicle’s front end and was thrown from his bike.
Kepler was declared dead at the scene.
Urista-Meza fled the scene but law enforcement arrested him a short time later. He was arrested and booked on multiple criminal charges, including felony hit-and-run and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.
“It’s tragic that we lost an incredible man who placed his life on the line for our protection and gave so much to the community,” said a representative of Wilshire Law Firm.
