Thousand Oaks Man Killed in Newbury Park Car Accident
On the evening of July 24, a 30-year-old Thousand Oaks man was killed in a Newbury Park car accident, according to officials.
The crash occurred about 7:13 p.m. At the time, the fatal victim, Zachary Allen Crook, was a passenger in a convertible driven by Josue Arturo Hernandez, 19, of Mission Hills. They were traveling south on Rancho Dos Vientos when Hernandez failed to navigate a turn and went off the road, first hitting a small tree and then later striking a second bigger tree.
Crook sustained major injuries and was taken to Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
Hernandez was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries and has since been arrested on charges of vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI.
“Investigators believe that alcohol and excessive speed played a part in this tragic drunk driving accident,” said a representative of Wilshire Law Firm. “We are keeping Crook’s loved ones in our thoughts.”
