Muscogee County School District Data Breach

(August 21, 2025)

The Muscogee County School District (MCSD) has announced a significant data breach that compromised the personal information of approximately 34,056 individuals.

What Happened?

On or about December 26, 2024, MCSD detected suspicious activity within their computer network. They immediately took actions to secure their network, launched an investigation with cybersecurity experts to determine the extent of the incident, and notified law enforcement.

The investigation determined that an unknown third party accessed MCSD’s computer network between December 12, 2024, and December 26, 2024. With the assistance of experts, they conducted an extensive review of the data at issue; that review was completed on July 11, 2025.

Based on the review, MCSD determined that some personal information was contained in the data potentially obtained by the threat actor.

Details of the Muscogee School Data Breach:

According to documents filed with the Maine Attorney General’s Office, the breach exposed sensitive information, including names and other personal identifiers. The attack involved unauthorized access to MCSD systems, potentially putting affected individuals at risk for identity theft and fraud.

MCSD began issuing written notification letters to affected individuals on August 14, 2025. These notices explain the nature of the breach, what information was involved, and the steps individuals can take to protect themselves.

To help safeguard impacted individuals, MCSD is offering one year of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection through Kroll.
