LOS ANGELES, CA. Dec. 29, 2017 — Bobby Saadian and Colin Jones, the Wilshire Law Firm attorneys representing Stefan Bogdanovich and Dakota Speas against Apple Inc., offered a joint statement, after Apple apologized for slowing down older iPhones and said it would reduce the price of a battery replacement from $79 to $29 through December 2018.
“$29 for a new battery? Tell that to the millions of iPhone users who already spent $1000 on a new device. Apple isn’t fooling anyone when they say the software updates were to save battery life. The only thing Apple was considering was improving their bottom line,” said Colin Jones, Esq., Partner.
The proposed iPhone class action has received worldwide attention. Wilshire Law Firm’s Founding President, Bobby Saadian, stated, “Apple is a global brand. They should know better. Apple should’ve asked for the consumers’ consent before slowing down older iPhones, deliberately.”
Plaintiffs, Stefan Bogdanovich and Dakota Speas, expressed their opinion on Apple’s slowdowns. “We had long suspected that Apple was purposefully slowing down our iPhones. We bought Apple’s smartphones in part, because they were able to run applications quickly. That is part of what we bargained for. When Apple admitted to this secret practice, it was clear we needed to take legal action. It’s outrageous that they purposefully slowed down our iPhones, without our consent. Going forward, we hope to vindicate the rights of all iPhone owners.”
Apple products are widely popular and consumers have made iPhones part of their lifestyle. Apple’s explanation for its deliberate slowdowns of older iPhone models isn’t enough for people, who felt they had to spend more money to purchase newer models. Echoing the consumers’ sentiment, Colin Jones added, “What Apple is doing is simply not fair to iPhones users. People who save their hard-earned money to buy an iPhone deserve a device that works, and not just until the newest model comes out.”
