Car Accidents in California
Motor vehicle crashes leave hundreds of thousands of people hurt every year. When multiple vehicles are involved in accidents, the chances of suffering severe injuries are drastically increased. Unfortunately, we see many people left with injuries that require immediate and extensive medical care. Victims of car crashes can often take legal action against those who are responsible. When it comes to accidents involving multiple vehicles, they tend to be more complex from a legal standpoint.
In order for victims to file claims successfully, they must be able to state negligence existed. When more than two drivers are involved in an accident, this can be incredibly difficult. A thorough investigation is generally needed to identify all of the factors that contributed to the accident. After the factors that contributed to the accident are identified, you must be able to prove the damages that you have suffered.
In California, awards for damages that victims suffer are provided based on the laws of comparative negligence. This law states that the amount of damages a victim can recover further damages will be reduced by the amount of fault shared by the parties involved. As such, the amount of damages that you can recover will be provided to you by each person who is responsible based on how much they contributed to the accident. If you contributed to the accident in any way, the number of damages that you will recover will be reduced. It is important that you have the strongest case possible to prove that the other driver or drivers were responsible for the accident and the damages you suffered.
