Car Accidents in California
Car accidents often take place in California due to driver negligence. When drivers are intoxicated by alcohol, distracted by their phones, fail to yield to others, or engage in other actions that are irresponsible, they place the lives of others at risk. Unfortunately, we see many people left with serious and life-altering injuries as a result of their accidents.
When innocent victims are hurt due to the negligent and careless actions of others, they can take legal action. Following our car crash, you can pursue a personal injury claim for compensation. This legal action can provide you with financial relief for medical costs, repairs to your vehicle, pain and suffering, and more.
In order to recover compensation, you must be able to prove negligence. This involves showing that the other driver was responsible for the accident because they breached the duty of care that was owed to you. The breach, whether it was driving while impaired or distracted, was the cause of the accident that left you with damages.
In California, victims are able to recover damages in the amount equal to the portion of fault shared by the defendant. If you share some responsibility for the accident taking place, the percentage of responsibility that you have for the crash will be used to reduce the amount of compensation you are able to recover. For example, if you contributed to an accident by 10%, the damages that you recover will be reduced by 10%.
To provide yourself with the best chance of maximizing the compensation you recover, it is important that you reach out to a California car accident lawyer to represent you throughout the legal process.
