Watsonville, CA (March 7, 2023) – According to the California Highway Patrol, Kianna Hughes, 25 years old, from Moreno Valley, was critically injured in a collision that occurred on Saturday night in Watsonville.
At approximately 10:22 p.m. on March 4, the collision took place in the area of Holohan Road.
Reports from authorities show that 38-year-old Angelica Varon was operating a 2007 Volvo XC90 while traveling south on Holohan Road when she crossed the double yellow lines and collided with a 2015 Hyundai Elantra driven by 26-year-old Breanna Romero.
Romero suffered severe injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased from her injuries.
Hughes, identified as a passenger in the Hyundai, had serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Natividad Hospital for treatment.
After taking her to Natividad Hospital with serious injuries, the authorities detained Varon for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Jesus Rocha Ayala, 25, from Watsonville, was a passenger in the Volvo and drove himself to Watsonville Community Hospital with serious injuries.
The circumstances surrounding the accident are being investigated.
