Jose Maria D. Patino, Jr., Esq. is a Junior Partner specializing in wage-and-hour class action litigation with more than 15 years of experience helping employees navigate complex workplace matters. Throughout his career, he has guided workers to majorly successful resolutions, including a $6.75 million settlement for more than 6,000 employees of a major health-insurance company.
One of Jose’s most meaningful experiences came while representing a client who became terminally ill during her case. He formed a close bond with her in her last days, promised to see her case through to the end, and steadfastly represented her surviving children who took her place in the case after her passing. Jose was ultimately able to secure a settlement on their behalf. Keeping that promise deeply shaped his approach to legal work.
Jose’s path to law followed the footsteps of his grandfather, an attorney in the Philippines who had been known for his quiet resolve and commitment to helping others during turbulent times. As a young man, Jose discovered a passion for writing and communication and learned as an adult how clear explanations and thoughtful advocacy can impact people’s lives. Inspired by his grandfather’s legacy, he became an attorney.
He believes a good lawyer should listen first, think second, and speak last. As a team leader, he prioritizes mentorship, collaboration, and supporting those around him. He is also an active member of the California Employment Lawyers Association (CELA).
Outside the office, Jose enjoys spending time with friends and family, playing guitar, diving into long-form videos and podcasts, discovering new anime classics, curating music, and proudly dominating his fantasy football league.
