The crash happened at about 6:50 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3, on Alta Mesa Road near Boessow Road in rural southern Sacramento County, according to the Sacramento Bee, FOX40, and ABC10, which cited the CHP’s South Sacramento office. The CHP said a northbound Honda Pilot turned left into the path of a southbound Chevrolet Silverado pickup.

The CHP’s account is preliminary, not a finding of fault, and the South Sacramento office’s investigation was still open as of November 4, 2026. We may update this article if the CHP releases more details.
Options After the Alta Mesa Road Crash
What injured passengers and families should know
In California, an injured passenger is not limited to a claim against the other driver. A passenger can bring a claim against any driver whose carelessness caused the crash, including the driver of the car the passenger was riding in (Civil Code §1714). Which insurance pays depends on who is found responsible and what coverage each vehicle carries. Our page on what to do after a car accident in California covers the first steps.
California generally gives an injured person two years to file a lawsuit. When the person hurt is a child, that time limit generally does not run until the child turns 18 (Code of Civil Procedure §§335.1, 352). Settling a child’s claim also requires a court’s approval (Probate Code §3500). Read more about claims for injured children.
