Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toys Recall Lawsuit: Beads That Expand Too Far

What the Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toys Recalls Cover

Two importers, two recalls in September 2026

The CPSC has announced two recalls of toys sold as Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toys. The larger one, recall 26-737 on September 3, 2026, covers about 7,200 pink squishy buns, Model D08004, imported by OKK Trading Inc. of Vernon, California, and sold at various third-party stores nationwide from May through August 2026. The second, recall 26-786 on September 17, 2026, covers about 276 green versions imported by Toyworld168 Inc. of Orlando, Florida, which sold from June through July 2026 for about $3.

Both notices say the toys were made in China and that no incidents or injuries had been reported. Wilshire Law Firm is looking into whether buyers of these squishy buns, and families whose children were hurt by one, may have legal options. No court has made any determination, and the matter remains an investigation.

The Federal Water Bead Standard Behind These Recalls

Rules in effect since March 12, 2026

Both recall notices say the toys “violate the mandatory safety standard for toys because the water beads inside the dumplings expand larger than permitted, posing a deadly ingestion hazard.” The CPSC’s water bead standard took effect on March 12, 2026, and applies to water beads manufactured after that date. It sets a maximum expansion size so beads can’t grow large enough to cause a blockage if swallowed, limits acrylamide content and requires warning labels.

The CPSC says water beads can grow up to 100 times their original size when exposed to water. It estimates that about 6,300 water bead ingestion injuries were treated in U.S. emergency departments from 2017 to 2022.

Do You Qualify for the Rainbow Squishy Bun Investigation?

Purchasers and injured children in Northern California

The investigation’s current criteria are:

  • You have proof of purchase of a “Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toys” product from a retailer, or you or your child were injured by one.
  • You are located in a Northern California county.

Either a purchase record or an injury can satisfy the first point. Because two importers sold toys under this name, note the color of the one you bought; a legal professional can tell you whether your purchase fits.

What to Do With a Recalled Squishy Bun

Steps from the recall notices, plus a few of your own

Both notices tell owners to stop using the toys immediately and list a full refund as the remedy. The steps match in each: write “RECALLED” in permanent marker on the bun and its tan plastic container, throw the toy away and email a photo of the discarded toy to the importer.

  • Note the color first. The OKK recall describes pink buns and the Toyworld168 recall green ones, and the notices say the toys carry no markings other than the cartoon face.
  • Photograph the bun and its “Rainbow MYSTERY” and “SUGAR EDITION” packaging before you mark and discard it.
  • Keep a receipt or statement showing where and when you bought it.
  • If your child was injured, don’t discard the toy yet. Keep it and the medical records, and speak with a legal professional first.

Taking the refund is not usually treated as giving up other rights, but your situation may differ, and this is not legal advice.

Why Third-Party Store Sales Make Records Important

Small shops, low prices and missing receipts

These toys were sold at various third-party stores nationwide rather than through one retailer, and the Toyworld168 version cost about $3, an inexpensive purchase that may not come with a saved receipt. If you don’t have one, a card statement, a photo of the toy or the packaging may still help a legal professional understand your situation.
