Tieu Dental Corporation, a California-based provider of oral and maxillofacial surgery services with offices in Campbell and Morgan Hill, has notified patients of a data security incident in which an unauthorized actor may have accessed and acquired files containing sensitive personal and protected health information. If you received a notification letter from Tieu Dental, your information may have been compromised — and you may have legal rights.
What Happened?
On or around July 29, 2025, Tieu Dental identified a potential security incident involving its computer network. The organization enlisted third-party cybersecurity experts to investigate. The forensic investigation confirmed that an unauthorized third party accessed Tieu Dental’s network between July 28 and July 29, 2025, and may have accessed or removed certain files during that time.
Tieu Dental conducted an extensive review of the affected files to identify what information may have been impacted. On January 11, 2026, Tieu Dental confirmed that certain files containing personal and protected health information may have been accessed or acquired by the unauthorized party. The breach was reported to the California Attorney General on March 5, 2026.
What Information Was Exposed?
According to Tieu Dental’s official breach notice, the information that may have been involved includes:
- Full name
- Date of birth
- Social Security number
- Medical records
- Treatment plans
- Prescription information
- Health insurance information
The combination of Social Security numbers, medical records, and treatment details creates a serious risk of identity theft, medical fraud, and the unauthorized disclosure of sensitive health information.
Your Rights as an Affected Individual
Dental practices are covered entities under HIPAA, which imposes strict requirements for safeguarding protected health information. California state privacy law also provides strong protections for patients. If your information was exposed in the Tieu Dental data breach, you may be entitled to compensation for:
- The unauthorized access and potential acquisition of sensitive personal and health information
- Costs associated with identity monitoring and protection
- Actual financial losses resulting from identity theft or fraud
- Emotional distress caused by the exposure of private medical and surgical records
