Associate Attorney


Derek S. Monzon, Esq. is an associate attorney in Wilshire Law Firm’s award-winning personal injury department. He focuses his practice on representing injured persons in litigated matters primarily involving catastrophic injuries. Derek takes very seriously his responsibility to ensure his clients’ legal rights are protected and enforced to the fullest extent of the law.

Derek, a Kentucky native, started his legal career working in the subrogation industry in various capacities, including as a claims examiner, law clerk, and in-house counsel. After moving to California, he worked as a claims adjuster for a large casualty insurer as he studied for the California bar.

Following his admission to the California bar, Derek worked as a plaintiff’s attorney at an established firm in the San Francisco Bay Area and later as a defense attorney for an established firm in Orange County. His well-rounded experience provides him with unique insight from multiple angles into how cases are evaluated and litigated, which he uses to his clients’ advantage.

Derek received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisville. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law, where he was a KLEO scholar. Derek is licensed to practice law in California, Indiana, and Kentucky.
